Shutdown of the Emergency Department of this busy city hospital was
not an option, so Schenectady's Ellis Hospital called on MLB once again
to serve as Construction Manager for this challenging project.
Working in close harmony with owner and architect,
MLB meticulously orchestrated a precision phasing plan to renovate
every square inch of the existing facility in the midst of what turned
out to be a period of record numbers of patient visits. Electrical
and mechanical upgrades and replacements were carefully integrated
to ensure no disruption in the operation of vital equipment or in the
delivery of essential patient care. The conversion of 1,000 square
feet of adjacent space for incorporation into the Emergency Room provided
valuable swing space to facilitate execution of the subsequent phases.
This tastefully finished and modern Emergency
Department includes a new reception area, a new central nurses station,
twenty private examination rooms and two isolation rooms.
Worthy of particular note is the complete replacement
of the HVAC/Air Handling System while the department was occupied and
in operation.
