The 100 year old Alumni Gym at Union College was converted
into a modern fitness center to serve the students, faculty and staff. This
Design-Build project continues the college’s commitment to
campus health and well being.
The center is a stunning piece of architecture with bright,
spacious interiors, exposed trusses and brick walls that have been
preserved from the original design in order to maintain a certain
amount of historical integrity. New windows were added on the
first floor to bring natural light to the space and to provide views
of the college’s athletic fields. From most vantage points,
several activity areas can be observed simultaneously, creating a
sense of constant motion and energy.
The two-story 24,000 square foot center offers a spacious
and well-supplied free-weight area as well as substantial aerobic/weight
machine venues, all serviced by a new heating and cooling system. The
project was recognized as an “outstanding building” by
American School & University Magazine.
