Three hundred eighty Skidmore juniors and seniors enjoy
life in the real world as residents of Northwoods Village. Groups
of three or four students, each with a private bedroom, share modern
apartments equipped with complete kitchens, dining and living space,
and bathrooms. Each of the ten buildings has its own laundry
and storage facilities.
Construction is a combination of wood and
steel with durable stained concrete floors. Native hardwoods
harvested on the 19 acre site were utilized in interior finishes.
MLB’s three-phase approach ensured efficient coordination of
trades through successive buildings, and panelized offsite wall sections
helped expedite project delivery so that the first three buildings
could be turned over early for summer occupancy.
Intelligent value engineering suggestions
offered by MLB during the Design Phase brought project cost in line
with the College’s budget, and early preparation of mock ups
during construction set the standard for high quality requirements
throughout this fast-paced project. Seventy four-hundred foot
Geothermal wells and 100 heat pumps provide efficient heating and
cooling for these handsome, rugged student residences delivered by
MLB in just 15 months.
