To upgrade its aging physical education and recreation complex and to augment existing facilities and programs, long-time client Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) selected MLB as Construction Manager for construction of the Mueller Fitness Center.

Attached to the Alumni Sports & Recreation Center, and adjacent to the Visitors Information Center & Public Safety Building located at the very hub of an extremely busy campus, construction of this state-of-the-art fitness facility would be no easy task. Major utility re-locations had to be undertaken during the Spring Recess to prepare the site for the May/end of semester start. A solid commitment to "Partnering" among all members of the project team contributed to an extremely effective pre-construction phase which in turn led to the construction of this beautiful center in just ten months.

Home to Rensselaer's varsity sports training room on one level, the Center also contains a bright, open, well-equipped exercise room encased by a huge curtain wall that runs the entire length of the building, a sub-dividable dance and aerobics room, a spacious meeting and seminar room, and generous reception and lobby space featuring a sophisticated electronic display wall which greets campus visitors with timely images and information.
